Dushanbe
Dushanbe is the largest city in Tajikistan and its magnificent Capital. It is the political, cultural and economic centre of the Country. Here the squares breathe History, and old Fortresses and Museums tell about the life of the civilizations that lived in the city for thousands of Years. A representative of the Samanid Dynasty, Ismail Samani, created his great power here. The Tajiks renamed his national currency (Somoni) and renamed the highest Peak of the Pamirs (since 1998 the peak of communism is called Ismail Samani Peak).
Dushanbe is situated at an altitude of 750-930 m above sea level in the densely populated Hissar Valley in southern Tajikistan. The city is one of the highest mountain capitals in the World. Literally a hundred meters from its border, the Mountains begin already.
Dushanbe has a distinct continental climate with dry and hot summers and humid, cool winters. The Dushanbe River flows through the city and feeds the artificial lake Komsomolskoye in the city centre. North of the city is the Varzob Gorge – there are numerous recreational facilities.
